Daniel Joseph Cooley, Sr. age 90, went home to his Lord and Savior June 30, 2011, at his home in Harriman with his loving family by his side. He was born December 31, 1920 in Harriman, Tennessee.
He attended and graduated from Rockwood High School in 1939 where he was a captain of the Rockwood Tigers football team his senior year. On September 1, 1941, he married the love of his life Faye Easter in Rossville, Georgia. Mr. Cooley proudly served in the US Navy aboard the destroyer escort USS Brough during WWII from April 1943 – November 1945. Upon his return from the war he began working for Union Carbide Nuclear Division Y12 Plant and retired in 1982 after a distinguished career of 35 years. A member of Trenton Street Baptist Church since 1951, Mr. Cooley was ordained a deacon November 30, 1952, serving his Lord Jesus Christ and his church to his fullest ability. He was named a Life Deacon on November 28, 2003.
Preceded in death by his parents, John L. and A. Pearl (Daniel) Cooley and his sister June Cooley Minn. Mr. Cooley is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Faye (Easter) Cooley, four children, Dan J. Cooley, Jr., of Unicoi, TN, John J. Cooley of Harriman, Mark E. Cooley, Seattle, WA, Mimi (Rito) Serna of Brandenburg, KY, and his brother J. Polk Cooley, Kingston. Six grandchildren, Dan J. Cooley III (Cley), Julianne (Roy) Maness, Jessica (Alfredo) Ordonoz, Sarah (Daryn) Griffis, Alana Serna, Danielle Serna, and four great grandchildren, Alejandro, Joaquin, Parker, and Mason.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 2, 2011 from 4 – 7 p.m. at Kyker Funeral Home, Morgan Street, Harriman, with funeral services on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Kara Foster officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
You walked this earth for 90 years, 5 months, and 30 days. Go rest in the arms of the angels now Daddy, may you find peace and comfort there. We love you.
