Daniel Corazza

1926 - 2024

Daniel Corazza, 98, of Greensboro, passed away at his home at Abbotswood, surrounded by family and loving caregivers on Monday, December 30, 2024.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2nd from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home located at 306 E Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood, NJ.
Memorial Mass on Friday, January 3rd at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church located at 1 Passaic St., Ridgewood, NJ.
Daniel Corazza was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 18th, 1926 to Helen Hovestadt Corazza and Daniel Corazza. He served in the US Navy during World War II on the USS Waller stationed in the Pacific. Shortly after he returned from the service, he met and married the love of his life, Clara. Dan worked for Brooklyn Union Gas Company for 38 years before retiring and moving to Greensboro, NC in 1990.
He was active at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, where you could see him attending daily mass, as well as counting money and working in the kitchen. Most recently, he was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Dan volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, and worked at the food pantry at Urban Ministries with his wife, Clara. Dan loved sports and was a huge Mets, Giants and Rangers fan. His favorite pastime was watching his grandson, Tommy play ice hockey. He loved music and was part of the chorus at Abbotswood. He also sang with the Greensboro Tarheel Chorus. He loved to cook and made the best eggplant parmigiana, pizzelles, easter pies and ricotta cake. At Abbotswood, you could find him working a jigsaw puzzle, gardening, playing bingo, poker, and attending weekly communion service and was part of the rosary group. He enjoyed gambling and looked forward to getting his weekly scratch offs. He also enjoyed going to Caesar's in Danville, as well as Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
He is predeceased by his wife of 73 years, Clara and his sons, Daniel Robert Corazza III and Robert John Corazza.
Surviving are daughter, Helen Corazza VanSciver, son, Thomas Corazza (Joanne), grandchildren Jesse Corazza (Marianna), Jason Corazza (Ivette), Justin Corazza (Lucilene), Susan Brunenavs (Mark), Kathryn Fleihan (Ziad), Thomas Corazza, Gianna Corazza and great grandchildren Owen Brunenavs, Alex Brunenavs, Lucas Corazza, Piper Fleihan, Ariel Corazza and Zander Fleihan, as well as many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
