DANIEL D. LINK, age 73, of Columbia Station, OH.

Danny was the 57+ year love of my (Terry) life that started with a piggy-back ride on West Tech football field when I was in 8th grade and he was a sophomore in high school. Then there was a hayride where he sat me on a fence post, gave me a blue sapphire ring and asked me to "go steady". (I still have the ring).

Danny was a loving brother and guardian to David. He was his Mom’s caregiver while she lived with us for 6 years with Alzheimer’s. He became “agitator in chief” to keep Uncle Billy’s spirit alive after he passed away. He made the BEST bonfires at our holiday parties. He was a very generous guy. (How many $2 bills do you have?) He was always interested in what all the nieces and nephews were up to, and willing to give any guidance they might want to listen to. He hated technology which is why he was lovingly known as “D-Rex” but was a news junkie so he had to adapt (he even agreed to a smart phone recently but only used it for calls). And his favorite food was “whoop-up” which you really don’t want to know about-but he loved it.

Danny honorably served in the Navy for 4 years. Once back home, he started working for the railroad (Conrail to CXS) at the Collinwood Diesel Yard as an electrician. He retired with a medical disability around 2012 over breathing issues.

He then got involved with The Cleveland Grays. He became a very active volunteer and soon a board member. He, along with the help of several other members, was able to sell a collection of donated books at various Military shows over several years, raising significant funds for The Grays.

His connection to other members at the Grays allowed him to introduce my nephew Thomas to several members who were a great influence in helping Thomas decide on applying for and attending the Merchant Marine Academy in New York (graduating this year!). Danny was so proud of Thomas and his accomplishments.

Danny's happy place was Las Vegas at the MGM playing Pai Gow Tiles and having dinner at CraftSteak. We were fortunate to have just returned from a 7-day trip where we had such a fun time. We were able to see the people we have gotten to know over the last 26 years that we consider family-Both in the casino and the restaurant. We were treated like royalty as everyone went out of their way to make our stay so enjoyable. Danny was always happiest when he was there.

While Danny and I did not have kids, we are blessed to have Danny Pierce (named after Danny) in our life. Danny Pierce (Marine then Firefighter/Paramedic) lost his dad several years ago, and Danny and Danny grew very close. Danny Link was there to encourage Danny Pierce to get the most out of his life for his family and his career. And he did! And for that, Danny Link has always been so proud to be a part of his life. And now Danny Pierce has been there with Danny Link for this last journey.

He was appreciative (even if he didn't quite show it all the time) of all those who have helped him over the years, especially Rick and Julie (greatest neighbors ever), Gabby and Matt.

He has touched a lot of lives in so many different ways and will be missed.
