Daniel DeLeeuw

I is a shock to me to hear of his passing. I was in the office last winter talking to him. In the typical small talk, he asked where I worked. When I told him of my job for which I was commuting to GR, he then made a comparison to a company in Holland. I think he was acting as a messenger of God in that moment. His gracious, caring question made me willing me take the call when that local company called. Now I am here in Holland, blessed and happier than ever thanks to Dan.

I sought Dan out in 2010 because I own the DeLeeuw family home on w 17thst to ask questions and talk about the houses history, little did I realize I would make a friend. Today I went in to DeLeeuw Lumber asking for him, A very nice young man Steve told me he was not with us anymore.. I gave Dan an old push lawn mower that was left in my garage which I was sure belong to him.. This was a good guy and I am still in shock.. He told me many times that he intended on buying his house back.. Rest in Peace my friend we will see one another again.. Your friend always Hank..

Know our love and prayers are with you and the family. God never said that life would be easy, but he promised better things ahead if we believe. We are so blessed to know where we are going.

Enjoyed working with Dan on the Park Township Board. His dedication to improving the lives of our community members was his primary concern. Dan's pensive approach to problem solving was evident in the way he conducted himself. He carefully sorted through all the data before taking a position, and always looked at the cost benefit side of the equation before making a decision. His analytical style of leadership will be greatly missed as will his compassionate interaction with people.

I have great memories of my days working at De Leeuw Lumber and Danny was one of the reasons. He was a fun loving guy who truly cared about others. My dad used to love to come into the lumber yard too - just to give him "lip service" as we used to say. The banter went on and on. Life moved on and years passed, and whenever I was able to run into him - our friendship continued and was always made to still feel like family. I will miss his shenanigans from years past and his genuine and caring friendship through it all. Thoughts and prayers to Joanie and Elizabeth along with the rest of the family thru this tough time...

A great guy from a great family! I remember some fun times up at Silver lake parasailing, golf outings and just having fun. Dan had a way to make you smile even when times were tough. My heartfelt thoughts for his family.

Dan had the natural ability to make me feel like family. Maybe in some ways it was that I had worked as a principal to so many of his family but I like to think that it was just his unassuming way with people. My trips to the lumber yard were always in anticipation of seeing him behind the counter dealing with the public in a way that was unique to him. For me, a little bit of earlier Holland will be taken away with his passing. Dan and DeLeeuw Lumber are landmarks of a Holland that I came to 45 years ago. My hope for him is for him to be in glory which will allow his unique pleasantness to not have to compete with constant pain.

Talked to Dan almost weekly and really enjoyed our conversations. He was a great guy and knew his stuff, always ready to help. He will be missed.
