Daniel A. DeVito Jr., age 83, of
Brockton, Massachusetts, passed away on March 31, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on October 8, 1942, in
Boston, Massachusetts, he lived a life marked by devotion to family, steady work, service to his country, and a deep commitment to the communities he called home.
He was the son of the late Daniel DeVito Sr. and Mary DeVito. Raised in Dedham, he graduated from Dedham High School and carried the values of hard work, loyalty, and perseverance with him throughout his life. Those who knew him will remember a man who took pride in doing a job well, who valued honesty and responsibility, and who approached each day with a quiet strength that earned the respect of all who knew him.
Daniel worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator for the town of Dedham, where he was known for his reliability and skill. He took great pride in his work and in contributing to the community through the labor he performed. His long career reflected his strong work ethic and his willingness to give of himself in service to others. He was also a proud Army veteran, having served from 1967 to 1969, a period of his life that reflected his sense of duty and patriotism.
Family was the center of Daniel's life. He was the beloved husband of Helen Ferdinand-DeVito, and together they shared a life built on love, devotion, and companionship. He was the father of the late Julie Sullivan, Gina Levesque of Raynham, Jamie DeVito of Hull, Daniel DeVito III of Stoughton, and Michael DeVito of Middleborough. He was also a loving stepfather to Melanie Millane of Holbrook, Glenn Ferdinand of Long Beach, California, and Danielle Ferdinand of Brockton. His family was extended further through his many grandchildren, each of whom brought him great joy and pride. He was especially dedicated to his grandchildren, and his love for them was evident in the time, attention, and encouragement he gave so freely.
He was the brother of the late Connie Erwin and Richard "Dick" DeVito of Maryland. Daniel's family connections were important to him throughout his life, and he treasured the bonds he shared with those closest to him. He will be remembered not only for the roles he held within his family, but also for the steady presence and warmth he brought to every gathering.
Daniel found happiness in simple pleasures and in the activities that brought people together. He was a devoted little league baseball coach in Stoughton and Hyde Park, where he shared his time, guidance, and enthusiasm with young players. Coaching gave him the opportunity to encourage others and to be part of something meaningful in the lives of children and families. He was also an avid fan of the Red Sox and the Atlanta Braves, and he followed both teams with great interest and loyalty. His love of baseball was matched by the joy he found in supporting his grandchildren and celebrating their accomplishments.
He will be remembered as a man of character, generosity, and heart. Daniel A. DeVito Jr. lived a life rooted in family, service, and commitment. His memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved him, and his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
