Daniel L. Eckert, of Alaska, Wisconsin passed away on May 21, 2025, aged 89 years.
The youngest of 9 children born to Stanley and Clara Eckert, Dan grew up in Milwaukee, WI graduating from Bay View HS. He spent the summer following graduation working in the Yaak Valley Wilderness Area of NW Montana due to his love of the outdoors. His first job as a Library Asst for the Milwaukee Public Library led him to pursue a Master's degree in Library Science which he proudly earned from Louisiana State University. Dan then embarked on a 45 year career as a professional Librarian, including positions with University of Wisconsin system libraries and as an Administrative Librarian for the entire Wisconsin Valley Library System. The last 28 years of his career were spent as the Manager and Clinical Reference Researcher for Holy Family Medical Center in Manitowoc, WI.
Dan's many and varied interests included hunting, fishing, skeet shooting, politics, history and collecting antiques. He generously supported his church, Holy Rosary, and many charities.
Dan will be remembered for his devotion to his parents who he helped care for so that they could remain in their home on Alaska Lake.
