Daniel Edward Fort

Daniel Edward “Dan” Fort, age 40, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025. He was born on August 28, 1984, in Iowa City, Iowa. Dan was the beloved son of Mike and Denice Fort. 

Dan was a true people person—someone who could light up a room with his presence and who never met a stranger. A big kid at heart, he had a laid-back nature and a contagious love for life. He found joy in the simple things: fishing, camping, and spending time outdoors. Dan was always up for a good time and always ready to spend that time with friends. He loved all types of music and loved singing along with his favorites. 

Graduating from Columbia Central High School in 2002, Dan was an active member of the Columbia Central HS Marching Band. His school years were filled with friendships and memories that reflected his fun-loving spirit and warm heart. Dan enjoyed various sports including baseball and soccer. He also took interest in refereeing soccer and spent many Saturdays at Cook Soccer park with his dad and brother. Daniel had a big heart and was ready to help anyone, anytime, with whatever was needed, never asking for anything in return. 

Dan is survived by his two children Makenna Hope Fort and Dalan Edward Fort. They meant the absolute world to him, and he loved every moment he spent with them. He also leaves behind his loving parents Mikkal Meredith Fort and Denice Kay (Jarrell) Fort; his brother Jason Mikkal Fort (wife Lindsay); and sister Jennifer Kay (Fort) Kurkimilis (husband Jason). He also adored his niece Emma Joelle Kurkimilis and nephews Caleb Mikkal Fort, Grant Hudson Fort, and Joel Oliver Kurkimilis.

 He will be remembered for his laughter, his kindness, and the joy to those lucky enough to know him. Dan will be deeply missed and forever loved. 

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 11, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, TN. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home as well. Bishop TJ Dunham will preside over the Celebration of Life Service.
