Daniel Freeland Obituary

Daniel C. Freeland

June 21, 1938 - February 24, 2024

Daniel C. Freeland, 85, of Christiansburg, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Spring Oak of Christiansburg. Born in Michigan City, Indiana, Daniel spent his early years in Rolling Prairie, Indiana and would occasionally work at a nearby farm. He had an interest in electronics at an early age and built a short-wave radio. He served in the Navy for nine years as a music instructor, during which time he met and married his wife, Diana. After military service, Daniel worked for AT&T, but his life took a new direction when he committed himself to Jesus Christ. He pursued his faith by studying at Washington Bible College, graduating in 1978, after which he served in various churches, including one in Spain. Daniel had diverse interests, including Bible study and teaching, music, photography, fishing, and technology.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Elma Freeland, and his sister, Janice.

Surviving family includes his wife of 63 years, Diana Marriott Freeland, as well as two children and their spouses, Elaine Seiler (John), and Andrew Freeland (Michelle). He is further survived by nine grandchildren – Elizabeth Meltzer (Matthew), Sarah Morris (Nick), Matthew Seiler (Judith), Rebekah Seiler (Matt), Jordan Seiler, Serena Bowen (Justin), John Freeland, Grace Freeland, Karalyn Freeland, and one great-grandchild – Mabeline Morris.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, 11 a.m. at Simpson Funeral Home, located at 5160 Peters Creek Road Roanoke, VA 24019.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Spring Oak of Christiansburg and Medi-Home Health and Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.

When Daniel threw out his sermon and gave his testimony, it led me to accept Christ at Grace Bible Church
I look forward to seeing him again around the throne.

Friend from Bethel Baptist Church. They both were missed when they left Bethel. Dan always came to see my Mom and Dad when they were in the hospital. He always said My Mom got him in trouble but saved his life she told another woman from Church that when he came to hospital to see her he took the steps and she was worried about him because he was so out of breath and didn't look good so the woman called Diana for her that was when he had to have his open heart surgery. He sang at my Mom's funeral and was upset because he was out of town when my Dad died and couldn't be there. I Wished he could have sang for him too. He will be missed

Such a wonderful Christian, he had a wonderful voice and used it for God´s glory. He was a soft spoken, very sweet man....we enjoyed him at Bethel Baptist Church in West Virginia for many years. He enjoyed talking about Ham Radio with my husband.
Prayers of comfort for his sweet wife Diane and their family. Absent from the body and now present with the Lord.
