Daniel R. "Poppa" Geisen, age 87 of Crown Point, formerly of Demotte and Griffith, IN passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
Daniel is survived by his four children: Jeff Geisen, Jeanette (Geisen) Jancosek, Jennifer Whitcomb and James (Raquel) Geisen; 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Lesslie Coffin, Nancy (late Gerry) Geisen, Dee (late Tommy) Pinkerton, and Nancy (Jim) Amon; along with his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Daniel was preceded in death by his wife Patricia (Pinkerton) Geisen; parents Leo James and Mary Edna Geisen; and his seven siblings.
Daniel was raised in Hammond, IN and was a graduate of Thorton Fractional High School. He began his railroad career as a Switchman with the Erie Lackawanna until they merged and became Conrail then transferred as a "Kingductor" to Amtrak in 1985 and eventually retiring in 1999. He also worked for Amoco Oil in Whiting for 30 years. Danny was a member of the Hammond Lions Club, Whiting Amoco Annuity Club, and various camping and railroad groups. He was an avid camper who loved to travel and spend time with his family and friends. Dan loved to educate people about the railroads and was a die-hard Notre Dame fan, GO IRISH!! He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. Services will conclude at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Daniel's name to a charity of your choice.
