DANIEL GIFFORD

GIFFORD--Daniel J. Robins Kaplan Professor of Law Emeritus at the University of Minnesota Law School, died on April 8 at his home in Wimauma, Florida, of complications from a stroke. He was 91. Recognized as an expert on antitrust law and administrative law, Professor Gifford wrote extensively in these areas. He was born on January 7, 1932 in Utica, New York. He earned an A.B. degree from Holy Cross College, an LL.B. degree from Harvard Law School and a J.S.D. degree from Columbia University. He practiced law with Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in New York, later joining the law faculties of Vanderbilt University and S.U.N.Y. Buffalo. He arrived at the University of Minnesota Law School in 1978 and was named the 1982-83 Julius E. Davis Professor of Law. He later served as the Robins Kaplan Professor of Law until his retirement in 2016. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ann Megathlin Gifford, daughters Kae Gifford of Manhattan, Christine Kurr of Dellwood, Minnesota, and seven grandchildren. A memorial will be held on June 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint John's Episcopal Church in Minneapolis.
