Daniel John Gilbert passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 11, 2025. He was a passionate chef who found joy in the kitchen and shared that love through a career that spanned decades. Starting as a sous chef and working his way up to head chef, Daniel left his mark on many restaurants throughout the Detroit area. Later in life, he devoted his talents to serving the senior community as a head chef and kitchen manager in several retirement communities, where his care and dedication touched many lives.
Daniel was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Gilbert Sr. He is survived by his loving daughter, Valerie Gilbert (Gabe); his mother, Jane Gilbert; his brother, Thomas Gilbert Jr. (Lisa); his sister, Caitlin Vuocolo (Paul); and his beloved girlfriend, Sydney Murie. He was also a cherished uncle to three nephews: Austin Gilbert (Alicia), Alexander Gilbert (Tiffany), and Luke Vuocolo.
Daniel will be remembered for his warmth, his generous spirit, and the meals he lovingly prepared for those around him.
A memorial visitation for Daniel will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Memorial contributions in honor of Daniel may be made to the Lenawee Humane Society.
