Dr. Daniel Dean Koenig, 80, resident of Rock Creek, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Self Regional Healthcare.
Born February 1, 1944 in Freelandville, IN, he was a son of the late Walter Gottlieb Koenig and Ruby Marie Stone Koenig. He was a graduate of Mooresville High School in Mooresville, IN and in January 1968 he graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Education. He also received his Master's Degree in Education Media from Purdue University in 1973, before he accepted a position at Piedmont Technical College in 1977. He was the Director of Library Services for the college as well as administrator for this community college for thirty-three years. In 1989 Dr. Dan was promoted to Dean of General Education; in 1996 he became the Assistant Vice President for Educational Technology; and in 1999 he advanced to Associate Vice President for Instructional Support and Technology. Dr. Dan received his Doctorate in High Education Administration from Nova University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1991.
In 2010, Dr. Dan retired from Piedmont Technical College but not before received numerous awards including "Outstanding Educator of the Year."
Surviving is a brother David Koenig of Atlanta Ga. and seven nieces and nephews; and ten grand nieces and nephews.
Dr. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lawrence, and a sister, Nancy Snyder; and a sister-in-law, JoAnne Koenig.
There are no services planned at this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greenwood County Community Foundation, 110 Phoenix St., Greenwood, SC 29646.
