Dear Loucks Family, I am sorry to read about the passing of Coach Dan Loucks. I had the privilege of playing three terrific years of Little League baseball (Blazers & Cards) on his well-coached teams and was fortunate to be a teammate of Steve, Brad, and Eric. Coach Dan was instrumental in making those Little League playing years so memorable; he sure left a wonderful lasting impression on me. I hope the fond memories you have of Dan and the times shared with him bring you all comfort at this time and going forward. With sympathy.

I am sorry to hear of Daniels passing. Although I barely remember him, Lyla, his mother was a very good friend of our family. My grandparents, John and Hazel Woodruff were neighbors to the Loucks, and as a nurse, Lyla came and checked on me whenever I was sick, especially with measles in 1962. All of Lylas kids were so nice, I remember, and my mom adored her family growing up next door. I went to visit Lyla often in the 70s through 90s and she met my kids and showed them her childrens dolls though they couldnt play with them as they were special to her! I am so happy to hear and read such great things about Daniel, and so sad he has passed. My sister Penny sends condolences as well. My mom was Shirley Woodruff Storhaug Halland. Much love to his family. Mara Solberg

What a beautiful obituary for a man who influenced so many people. Mr. Loucks was my teacher and coach at Memorial and I agree that as both he was ahead of his time. He was so ahead of his time that he even made gym class fun. It might be hard for younger people to realize how unusual that was at the time. To give you an idea of how well liked he was, he was invited to our twentieth class reunion, and all kinds of former students enjoyed the opportunity to talk with him. What a legacy he leaves.

Steven and Family: My sincere condolences on the loss of your Dad. While growing up in Eau Claire, it was an honor to watch him coach you for countless hours at the Manz School baseball fields. Whether it was through swimming at the YMCA or Little League baseball, your dad always was vigilant and influential, but always seemed so patient. He was admired by so many and probably the dad that many kids wished they had themselves. He touched so many lives and his memory will live on in the hearts and works of teachers and coaches who can honor your Dad's dedication, patience, and ethics in the work they do today and for years to come. Prayers for healing are sent your way and again, I'm sorry for your loss.

Dear Diane and sons. Beautiful story on Dan in the obituary. Very sad to hear t he news. Dan was not just my coach and teacher at Eau Claire Memorial he was also a friend. He grabbed me one day ,as a youngster, We worked together on building the famous Brat Kabin in town.
Dan was always positive. Tha was one reason my dad, Dave S. Donnellan and his sons, Ned and I enjoyed and respected him and Diane. God Bless you all. Dan and Wayne(Butch) Preston were my favorite teachers. Demanding and encouraging. PHD in football.

Mr. Loucks taught and coached me at Eau Claire Memorial. I remember him as someone who cared about his students and players more than most. I am glad to have known him and glad he had such a loving family with him through the challenges in his life.

Dear Mrs Loucks, Steve, Brad and Eric. I am so sorry to hear about Coach Louck's passing. He was a great teacher, coach and man. Coach Loucks was the single biggest influence in my becoming an educator and coach. He was tough but caring and strong but kind. I will never forget the day he was challenged by a student to demonstrate a back flip off the diving board. Coach smirked, walked to the board and demonstrated an Olympic like dive. The entire class stood in awe for several seconds and then broke out in a loud applause! I also remember each of his son's beating me in HORSE at the EC YMCA.
I am happy to see that he had so many people that loved him and had the honor to call him father, grandpa and friend. May God bless all of you.

Dan was my gym teacher in the late 1960's at Eau Claire Memorial. He was a great teacher and person with a wonderful, quiet sense of humor. Dan was obviously a strong athlete and he served as a great role model for all of us. I am very sorry to hear of the passing.

What a great man. My memories go as far back to the day Dan and his family moved from Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Owensboro. Dan certainly made is mark in our community with his high level of integrity and his love for seeing young athletes excel. He was certainly a behind the scenes mentor to me as a teenager, encouraging me to be an educator. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, you better have listened. I recall two of his famous quotes, which I still share to this day:

"Better late than never, but better never late."
"Practice makes perfect, but it takes perfect practice."

It's hard to that was over 30 years ago. Thanks Dan!
