Daniel Steven McKissack, age 77, a longtime Rome resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the Wynn Hospital in Utica. At the time of his passing he had the love and support of his daughter at his side.

Born in Seattle on June 9, 1948, Daniel was the son of the late Marjorie Dawe and James E. McKissack. He was raised and educated in Port Orchard, WA and graduated from South Kitsap High School. He then went on to further his education, attended the University of Washington, and earned his bachelor's degree in liberal arts.

At one time, he shared in a marriage with the late Katherine (Furlong) McKissack, a relationship from which came their children.

Daniel lived the first part of his life in Washington State. In the late 90s he relocated to Rome, NY and went to work in the finance department at DFAS, until his retirement. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing sports. In his later years, he could be found watching TV and keeping up with the latest news.

He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer McKissack of Rome; his son, Jason McKissack of Tacoma, WA; and his grandsons, Mac McKissack and Samson (Phoebe) McKissack.

In keeping with Daniel's wishes there will be no formal funeral services. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 West Chestnut Street, Rome, NY (315) 337-0055, Kevin Barry, Nick Iselo and Marty Ciaccia, Funeral Directors.
