Daniel Richard McNamee Sr., 82, passed away peacefully in Stony Brook, surrounded by his family. Born on April 26, 1942, he was raised by his loving parents, the late John Hugh Joseph McNamee and Kathryn Newell McNamee, in Staten Island.

Dan leaves behind a large, loving family. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and their children: Donna Knab and her husband, Chris; Dana McNamee and her partner, Doug Quaranto; Deirdre Tevlin and her husband, David; and Daniel McNamee Jr. and his wife, Janine. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Brett Youngblood; Brianne, Katie, and Timothy Mulligan; Brenden and Justin Knab; Ava and Killian McNamee; and Jack Tevlin.

Daniel loved his family and the many friends he made throughout his life. He loved classic cars, collecting coins, traveling and dining with his wife on many cruises, and taking care of his family and home.

He served in the U.S. Navy and then started his career as a Correction Officer in the New York State Department of Corrections, where he worked happily until his retirement. He was a proud member of the Masons, becoming a 33rd-degree Mason, and a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was also an active community member, being part of the Liberty Elks Lodge and the Lions Club of Livingston Manor.

He was a good man who enjoyed doing nice things for people and could always be counted on for a good laugh. He was also proud of his many accomplishments throughout his long, rich life. He will be deeply missed, and may he rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers, mass cards will be available for purchase at the funeral home or your local church.
