It is with great sadness that we advise you of the passing of Dan McNeil at the tender age of 98, just short of his 99th birthday. Predeceased by his wife Ruth and daughter Karen, his brothers Francis, Arthur, Donald and sister-in-law Marie. He is survived by his sister Mary, son-in-law Ron Grieve, his daughter Nicole and her husband Chris Habib. Son Dan and his wife Lise (n. St.Jean) and their children Danielle(Elle) and her husband Micheal Mularz, Rebecca and Gene (Doronila) and Andrew. Son Jeff and his wife Terri (n. MacAulay), children Jason, Justin and his wife Jill (n. Bekker) their daughter Audrey.
Born in Cape Breton where he first worked as a coal miner, he spent most of his life in Malton, Ontario. Dan Sr. was a proud member and Vice-President Emeritus of the United Steelworkers. He was also a founding member of the New Democratic Party, the Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR), the Ontario Federation of Union Retirees (OFUR) and the Congress of Union Retirees of Canada (CURC).
Dan retired from the Steel Company of Canada (STELCO) Swansea Works, he lived for several years in West Etobicoke on The West Mall, before returning to Malton, where he remained until his passing.
This former National Softball Champion (Back Catcher) was a DAY ONE fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. He loved his Argos and Leafs and even became a Raptors and TFC fan.
