Daniel James Nebel, son of James and Olive (Sonderman) Nebel, was born on January 27, 1956, in
Omaha, Nebraska. Dan passed away on August 13, 2023, at the Shenandoah Medical Center in
Shenandoah, Iowa.
Dan was the oldest of six children born to Jim and Olive Nebel. He grew up on a dairy farm near
Imogene, Iowa. He attended St. Patrick's Academy in
Imogene, Iowa before transferring to Farragut, Iowa Community School and graduating with the Class of 1974.
After graduation, Dan was employed with Eaton Transmission, Shenandoah and later with Elster American Meter in
Nebraska City, Nebraska. (Now Honeywell American Meter). Dan had a very mechanical mind and enjoyed working with his hands, especially anything gas and oil. His hobby for many years was working on vintage and antique tractors. He enjoyed talking about them, displaying them, and riding them in parades. He made many tractor enthusiast friends. He also enjoyed helping harvest with various farmers in the area.
He was married to Janice Smith at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in
Imogene, Iowa on March 6, 1982. They resided in
Shenandoah, Iowa and to this union two boys were born: Paul and Thomas. Dan was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church,
Shenandoah, Iowa.
He loved country life on his acreage northwest of
Coin, Iowa. Dan didn't know a stranger and was a "give the shirt off his back" kind of guy. After his passing, he was a tissue donor which exemplifies his kindness and generosity to others, so that they may have a better life.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Olive Nebel and his in-laws John and Helen Smith.
Dan is survived by his wife Janice of the home, son Paul (Christina) of Elgin, OK, and son Thomas of Farragut, Iowa. His four grandchildren. Audrey Williamson of
Nebraska City, NE and Benton, Colden, and Hunter Nebel of Elgin, OK and one great grandchild, Violet Viorato (Audrey) of

Dan will be laid to rest in Mt. Calvary Cemetery,
Imogene, Iowa overlooking the farm which brought him so much joy in his younger years. May he rest in peace.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 19, 2023 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Imogene. Visitation with family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 18, 2023 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Imogene. Memorials may be directed to the family. Burial will be held at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Imogene.
