Death Notice

Daniel Frank Nicksic

1962 - 2023

Daniel Frank Nicksic, age 61, of Valparaiso, IN, formerly of Merrillville, IN passed away on September 5, 2023. Daniel is survived by his wife, Theresa (Berger) Nicksic of 29 years and their daughter, Margaret (Maggie) Nicksic. Dan was one of seven surviving children of Frank and Patricia Nicksic, who preceded him in death along with his infant sister, Katherine Mary in March of 1963. Dan's loving siblings include Steven (Tamara) Nicksic of Valparaiso, Jennifer (Dan) Sheridan of Newport Beach, CA, David (Bridgett) Nicksic of Charleston, South Carolina, Suzanne Nicksic (Rick Tierney) of Atlanta, GA, James (Candice) Nicksic of Valparaiso, and Victoria (Brian) Fadden of Chicago, IL; 26 nieces and nephews who were beloved to "Uncle Dan"; God Mother Catherine Hess of Dubuque, IA; and lots of aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws throughout the nation but mostly concentrated in Northwest Indiana and Dubuque, IA.
Dan & Theresa became active members of St. Paul's Parish after moving to Valparaiso in the 1990's. As a graduate of Indiana University 1983 (BS Business), Andrean High School 1979, SS Peter and Paul Grade School, Dan was well equipped to advance his professional life and his hobbies as a passionate autodidact. He actually loved to read technical manuals. He immersed himself in the futures trading industry at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. After selling his seat, Dan immersed himself again in the tech industry, learning computer networking from scratch, he co-founded Think Tank Information Systems in 1989. After selling his interests in Think Tank in the 1990's, Dan acquired South Bend Reprographics with his partner Jim Asbury where he greatly expanded its footprint, transforming an old copy and blueprint company into a regional technology organization which ultimately, he sold to the publicly traded ARC, where he continued to work in management until his retirement.
Second only to his love of family and friends, Dan's love of fly-fishing drew him like a magnet all over to the country's best fishing holes. He even earned his pilot's license to make those places more accessible. The "Insane Fisherman" could be seen making his own rods, tying his own flies, practicing his casting, pouring over maps of rivers, entomology textbooks and planning trips which became the subject of legend. Dan was equally passionate about his love of golf. Dan and Theresa spent lots of memorable times with family and friends first at Innsbrook Country Club and later at Valparaiso Country Club.
