Daniel O'Connell

Daniel Joseph O'Connell, 72, of Baltimore, MD passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026 from complications of Parkinson's disease.

He was born August 13, 1953 in New Haven, CT to the late Daniel and Elizabeth Blake O'Connell. Dan is survived by daughters Erin (Eric Bielitz) O'Connell of Baltimore and Maureen (Shaun) McCoy of Severn; sisters Mary (Bob) Grilley of Trumbull, CT, Betty O'Connell of Norwalk, CT and Katie (Steve) Wellington of New Milford, CT., former wife Marybeth O'Connell of Severn, and granddaughters Sadie and Ruth Bielitz, Maren and Siobhan McCoy.

Dan graduated Fairfield Prep '71, writing for The Fairfield Citizen as a student. He then attended Loyola University, Maryland, where he became the sports editor for The Greyhound. He also worked as an undergraduate assistant with the men's basketball program. Following his 1976 graduation, Dan became the Sports Information Director at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. In 1979 he joined the Towson University athletic department, retiring as the Athletic Media Relations Director in 2014. He also served as the Assistant Director of Statistics for the Baltimore Ravens for over a decade. He continued to work in a part-time capacity for Loyola and Towson athletic programs. Dan was elected to the Towson Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ruck Funeral Home in Towson, MD. Friends will be received on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm.
