Daniel John Oberg, 81, of Dixon, passed away Friday, December 19, 2025, at OSF Saint Katharine Medical Center in Dixon from a long battle of diabetes. He worked for Illinois Department of Transportation as an Engineer Technician for ten years, and then went to work for an environmental engineering firm as a supervisor until he retired.
Daniel was born, November 12, 1944, in Chicago, IL, the son of John and Eleanor (Thorngren) Oberg. He graduated from Orion, IL in 1962. Daniel enlisted in the United States Army in 1966 and served in Vietnam from 1967-1968. He married Judy Rogers on May 2, 1970, in Mt. Carroll. Daniel graduated from Morrison School of Technology in 1970. He enjoyed being a member of Rock River Valley Vietnow. Daniel was honored to attend an Honor Flight to Washington DC in 2016. In Daniel's younger years, he enjoyed bowling and taking cruises to Hawaii and the Bahamas. Daniel was a diehard Chicago Bears fan, enjoyed going to car shows and looking or his favorite car, the 1958 Chevy, and was very proud of his Swedish heritage including eating herring and lutefisk. He was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dixon. Daniel could be found spending time playing crypto quotes, mahjong and solitaire; but his love was having pillow fights, water and snowball fights, and watching his grandchildren play sports. He was a soft spoken, kind man that never knew a stranger, and had a wonderful heartfelt and joyful spirit. Daniel cherished spending time with family and was proud of all of them.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy Oberg, two children, Daniel Eric (Joanne) Oberg, Andrea (Matt) Bonnette; four grandchildren, Danielle (Zach) Spinden, Carissa (John) Aldridge, Allysen (Adam Stegmann) Jacobsen, Nate Oberg; two great-grandchildren, Dane, Peter; one brother Thomas (Maripat) Oberg; and one sister, Faith (Keith) Gates.
Daniel was preceded in death by parents; and two stepfathers, Wallace Johnson and Russ Olson.
