Daniel Pointer Obituary

Daniel Robert “Dan” Pointer passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Saturday, February 7, 2026, in Oklahoma City. Born in Houston, Texas, to Robert Earl and Mona Margarite Pointer, Daniel grew up in Abilene, Texas, with his brother, Carl.

Upon graduating from Abilene High School, Dan entered military service with the United States Navy. He proudly served his country for four years, first stationed in Hawaii and later in Thailand, where he worked as a sonar technician detecting and analyzing critical data, tracking undersea targets, and providing critical acoustic data off the coast of Vietnam. This experience laid the foundation for a long and meaningful career in healthcare materials management. Throughout his career, Dan procured advanced technological equipment that enabled hospitals to deliver high quality, state of the art care to patients. He considered it a privilege to serve for more than 25 years at Midwest Regional Hospital and later at Diagnostic Laboratories of Oklahoma and SSM Bone & Joint Hospital.

While his professional life brought great satisfaction, Dan’s greatest joy was found in his family and his faith. In 1986, he met his wife, Jeaneen, while they were both working at Midwest Regional Hospital. Their shared faith, love of church activities, appreciation for music and art, enjoyment of shopping (yes!), and enthusiasm for baseball games and tournaments formed the foundation of a devoted life together. Sailing also brought times to enjoy God’s creation together, especially Oklahoma sunsets. Dan loved experiencing the peace that gliding across the waves of Lake Hefner brought and the memories of serving in the Navy sailing evoked.

Dan was a devoted student of the Bible and always had additional books and studies in progress on his desk. He never passed up a visit to Barnes & Noble or Mardel to add to his growing collection. In 2015, as a way to deepen their faith, Dan and Jeaneen traveled to Israel—a life changing journey that left a lasting impact on their spiritual walk and remained a cherished memory for both of them.

Dan’s creative spirit found expression through photography, painting, and music. Even at the age of 80, he continued painting and was learning to play the harmonica. He sparked his son Kristopher’s love for baseball by enrolling him in T ball at the age of four, beginning a lifelong family passion for the sport. Dan attended every game without exception. He also recognized musical talent in his sons, Gene and Jim, and faithfully encouraged them to pursue excellence and opportunities to share their gifts. Dan thoroughly enjoyed attending performances and events where each of his sons played music.

Dan will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Today, he rejoices in eternal life, praising the Lord and enjoying fellowship with his Heavenly Father.
