Daniel Wesley Pulliam

Daniel Wesley Pulliam, also known as my darling husband Dan, my little blue-eyed wonder, honey bunny, darlin' Dan, Dan the Man, Doorman, Dano, Mountain Man and Polecat by his wife and friends (his pets had many names as well), left us on a moonless night to catch a ride on the green comet. He was known for his quick wit and dry comments that we called “Danisms”. Dan was born in Monrovia, California to Carl Wesley Pulliam and Shirley Mae Neufeld. He was raised in San Clemente, California where he had his schooling and became a surfer boy hitting the waves of T-Street, Tressles, San Onofre, Calafia and also surfing the coasts of Baja, Mexico with his buddy forever, Barry Nelson. He was also an apiarist with another lifelong buddy Tim Riley. Dan was a construction worker all of his life following in his dad's footsteps. He worked many places on track houses across the southwest until he moved to Ketchum, Idaho in 1983 following his sister, Carla Pulliam. He became a contractor there before he retired.

In 1986 he met his future wife, Poo Wright, in the basement of a church where their love grew one day at a time. She asked him to marry her on Sadie Hawkins Day in 1987 and they eloped at the Little Chapel of the West in Las Vegas on the way to visit family in San Clemente on September 12th, 1988. They celebrated 35 years of “Bliss” the day before he passed.

Dan and Poo had an adventurous life joining the Sun Valley Volunteer Fire Department in the late 80's for six years, both becoming engineers. They left the Department after starting their log home mid valley, which Dan did all the work on; a work still in progress to this day. In 1993, they became commercial fishermen in Egegik, Alaska where they spent three summers set-net fishing, the first two years with fellow firefighters and the last year for a native Aleut family of women. Dan loved skiing, golf, softball, ice-fishing, camping, Pro sports and being a jack-of-all-trades, but he mostly loved hunting big game, whether it be by bow or rifle, in the mountains of the Wood River Valley. He butchered his own meat and also made several wonderful sausages. Wild game was always the fare at the dinner table.

Dan was diagnosed with FnCword on August 21st, 2023 and passed away after being life-flighted to Boise with complications of lung cancer just 23 days later, stunning us all and taking the wind out of our sails. He had also just celebrated 39 years of sobriety. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Carl and Shirley and his sister Carla; cousin, Paul Pulliam; mother-in-law, Erma McCoy; fathers-in-law, Lowell McCoy and Chuck W. Wright; sister-in-law, Char Phelps, brother-in-law Chuck G. Wright and niece Lisa Marie Wheeler. He is survived by his wife Poo (Kathryn) Wright-Pulliam; sister-in-law Shauna Sanderson; niece, Creighton Pulliam; nephews Tucker Howell; Will Wray; Mike Sanderson; James Sanderson; cousin David Pulliam and many great-nieces and great-nephews. His kind soul will be truly missed by so many.
