Daniel Rasinske Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heritage Funeral Home – New Berlin on Feb. 28, 2026.
Dan passed away peacefully on February 25 th, 2026, at age 80, surrounded by family. He was the son of the late Walter and Muriel (nee Schmoeger) Rasinske. Dan was the loving husband of Mary Sue (nee Kamin) for 56 years. Dan was the dearest Dad of Lisa (Todd) Nowakowski, Daniel J. Rasinske Jr. and Susan (John Kulzick) Rasinske. He also was the proud Papa of Emily (Kate Weber) Nowakowski, Michael (Taylor) Nowakowski, Bennett Rasinske, and the late Jacob Rasinske. He was the Great-Papa of Paisley and Harvey Nowakowski. Dan was the Brother of Michael (Sharyn) Rasinske and brother-in-law of Kathleen Kamin Dicello. He was the Uncle of Theresa (Tom) Gandre, John (Dawn) Rasinske, and Kate (Don) Sieg. Dan was the Cousin to the late Kathy Vilski and is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Beloved husband of Mary Sue, married on March 29, 1969, he was a devoted partner, proud educator, and lifelong sports fan. A faithful supporter of the Milwaukee Brewers, he never missed a chance to cheer them on and was always hopeful that "this is their year." His love of competition extended to the lanes as well, where he enjoyed many seasons in a bowling league with friends.

Dan was a proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, where he earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education. Dan often said there was no school better than UWM.

For 33 years he served Milwaukee's students with patience and dedication, teaching at Juneau High School and Walker Middle School, later guiding young people as a Counselor at John Marshall High School. Early in his career, Dan gave generously of his time as a high school football and basketball coach, shaping countless lives on and off the field.

Outside of school and sports he found joy in music, especially oldies, including the Beach Boys, Bobby Vinton, Ricky Nelson, and the Lettermen. These were songs that brightened ordinary days and brought family and friends together. In Dan's final days, the song that brought him much joy and elicited a positive response from him was "I Think They Call This Love" by Elliot James Reay. Click here to listen to "I Think They Call This Love".

Warm, steady, and encouraging, Dan will be remembered for his commitment to family, his students, and the simple pleasures that defined his life: a good game, a favorite tune, and the company of those he loved.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the kind, caring and supportive staff at Heritage Deer Creek in New Berlin, Brighton Hospice, Froedtert 5NE and 4PV, and Dr. James Censky who all made Dan's final days comfortable and peaceful.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to NAMI of Southeastern Wisconsin in memory of Dan's beloved grandson, Jacob Rasinske, who passed away on August 26 th, 2025.
