It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel Charles Reilly (age 72) of Newton, MA. Dan died peacefully on May 22,2025, after close family members were able to be with him, hold him close and express their love for him. Dan had struggled valiantly with Parkinson's disease for more than ten years.
Dan was a loving husband to Trudy for nearly 47 years, a devoted father to John Daniel, a doting grandfather to James and Maggie. He loved and was loved by his extended family that includes daughter-in-law Sarah, sister Donna, brother Bill and his wife Michelle, a cousin Teri and her husband Bill, niece Meghann and her husband Chris and their son Riley, and niece Sarah and sister-in-law Judy and her partner George.
Though Dan earned both a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree and worked at various professions during his life, his true passion included mountaineering in all seasons and in all kinds of weather in the Adirondacks and the White Mountains, To stay in shape, he remained an active member of the West Suburban YMCA in Newton where he was a member for decades. He particularly enjoyed wilderness treks with his son John and spoke about carrying on the hiking tradition with his grandchildren. He volunteered with the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts while his son was involved. Later, he became an avid volunteer for Newton At Home, where he offered "handyman services" to many of its members for nearly ten years until his Parkinson's symptoms advanced. Volunteers at Newton's swap shop/recycling center also benefited from his volunteering efforts to fix clocks, tools and small appliances.
A wake/visitation will take place on Tuesday June 10, 2025, from 3 PM to 6 PM at Andrew J Magni and Son funeral home, 365 Watertown Street, Newton, MA 02458. A Celebration of Life service will be held on the following morning, June 11,2025 10:30 am at First Unitarian Universalist Society of Newton, 1326 Washington Street, Newton, MA 02465.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

Dear Trudy,
We only met briefly at the Newton Parkinson's Support Group meeting one morning last year, though I knew your son John as a classmate of my son Sam at Zervas long ago. I wanted to say how brave and spirited Dan was when we re-met at the Support Group! He always had things to talk through and questions to ask the rest of us, as though any of us have real answers to this nasty disease. He was on top of everything! I can imagine how much you and your family had to cope with over the last few years. I wanted to add condolences and this small memory. My best regards, Bob Jaffe
