Daniel Romans Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bevis Funeral Home - Tallahassee on Sep. 20, 2024.
Daniel W. "Danny" Romans went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, September 16, 2024. He was born November 21, 1949, at home in Crum, WV (up Crum Holler) to Walter D. and Thursia Endicott Romans.
He loved his family and growing up in the hills of West Virginia and Kentucky. He used his God-given gift of teaching and thirst for learning for more than 50 years. While in college at Tennessee Temple and attending Highland Park Baptist Church he worked a church bus route bringing children from the twin cities of Soddy-Daisy, TN. He created his own Sunday school class of primary boys from the group of children he helped bring to church each week. He served in three different schools: Providence Christian in Riverview, FL; Temple Heights Christian in Tampa, FL; and North Florida Christian in Tallahassee, FL. His primary subjects were history and government, but he also taught Bible, psychology, speech and drama and often covered other subjects as needed. In college he found he had a talent and passion for drama and was involved in many productions in schools and churches. He also loved supporting all of the sports programs in various ways-as PA announcer for football and baseball games or driving teams to games. He served as advisor to the yearbook staff (always had a camera with him) and National Honor Society. He served as Dean of Men or Dean of Students and dealt with each situation lovingly, patiently and fairly. He sincerely loved his many students and was always thrilled to hear from them and spend time catching up.
After leaving education, he worked for the Florida Department of Labor and Employment Security (later Agency for Workforce Innovation then Department of Economic Opportunity) for 25 years. While he was working for the State, he felt the Lord's call to preach. After being ordained he ministered as bi-vocational pastor of New Hope Baptist Church for almost 26 years. He was a perpetual student who loved studying God's Word and was always eager to share that knowledge and God's love at any opportunity.
He was predeceased by his parents Walter and Thursia Romans, his father and mother-in-law, Samuel and Emma Lea Bruce, brothers-in-law Allen Conley and William "Bill" Bruce and a niece Cynthia Bruce. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathy Bruce Romans, a very special niece and nephew Laural and Paul Arnaldo, and a student who became like a son, James Reed. He is also survived by siblings Barbara Conley of Chillicothe, OH, Grady Romans (Iva) of Grove City, OH, Brenda Pickett (Barry) of Galloway, OH, Martha Profitt (Lenox) of Beckley, WV, Lloyd Romans of Statesville, NC and Rodney Romans (Regina) of Crum, WV, and brother-in-law Larry Bruce (Sue) of Medart, FL as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, September 23 at Seminole Baptist Church, 3330 Mission Road, Tallahassee, FL from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Home-going Celebration will be Tuesday, September 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Seminole Baptist Church. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, PO Box 6098, Tallahassee, FL 32314; Gideons International, PO Box 1245, Tallahassee, FL 32302; or Lighthouse Children's Home, 7771 Mahan Dr., Tallahassee, FL 32309.
