Daniel S. Salas of Santa Paula passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on July 17, 2024, after a battle with cancer. Dan is preceded by his parents Samuel and Anita Salas. He was a loving husband to Kay (Slinkard) Salas, devoted father of Daniel (Maria) Salas, Michelle Salas, Andrew (Jessica)Salas, and treasured grandfather to Angel and Delsiana Salas, Ava, Caden and Blake Jacobs, Layla and Jade Salas, Michael and Victoria Romero. Respected brother of Tony (Irene)Salas and Sam Salas, cherished uncle of Carolyn (Lara) Salas, (Guillermo Ramires-Lara )and Kathleen Salas. He will also be remembered by many cousins, relatives and friends from the fire department and his best friend Jimmy Lovio.
Dan grew up in Santa Paula, CA where he went to Santa Paula High School and Ventura College. Dan was known for his dedication to his family and serving the community. He helped his parents with the “El Brillante Market,” worked for Knudsen Santee Dairy as a class A driver, driving semi-tractor trailers and later delivering dairy products. With his passion for the community, he decided to become a firefighter with VCFD where he served 21 years. Dan was also a member of the Ventura Professional Fire Fighters Association and earned many honors and awards such as: “Outstanding Firefighter of the Year 2009”, Station 20 and VCFD Battalion 2 and Life Saver Award, September 19, 2009. Dan had an amazingly high mechanical aptitude that could fix anything. He was the go-to guy! He had a passion for cars that extended to fixing, painting, and driving them. His GTO was proof of that. Dan’s clever sense of humor was always present no matter what he faced. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
