Daniel R. Sheehan, 70, of Hyde Park, NY passed away on October 28, 2024 at Hudson Valley Hospice House, in Hyde Park with loving family members surrounding him. Dan was gracious right up to the end.
Dan was born to David P. and Roberta E. Sheehan in Brooklyn, NY on January 31, 1954 and spent the first ten years of his life in Plainfield, NJ. After moving to Hyde Park, Dan developed a real love of the outdoors and he enjoyed skiing, fishing, swimming, hiking, and boating on the Hudson River.
He was a favorite uncle to all his nephews and nieces who appreciated his sense of humor, patience and obvious love for them.
For many years, Dan worked at the Town & Country Diner (now the Eveready Diner) working his way up to Head Cook.
Dan was an accomplished musician and after attending Dutchess Community College for a brief time, he devoted the rest of his life to music, performing on both guitar and saxophone over the years with regional groups like the Motherfathers, The Electric Eels, The Moonshiners, The Willie Amrod Band, and Steve Ferguson and the Humanitarians. Dan was also a proficient Live and Recording Sound Engineer and Road Manager, touring with NRBQ (where he also played Sax), Edgar Winter, Southside Johnny, and The Ramones. He also operated a regional recording studio, recording various Hudson Valley artists. Dan retired from Ballantine Communications, Pleasant Valley, where he provided expert sound reinforcement. In 2016, Dan was recognized for his abilities as a sound technician when he was inducted into the New York Blues Hall of Fame.
He is predeceased by his parents, and survived by siblings Lawrence Sheehan (Liz), Georgetown, TX, Kenneth Sheehan (Linda), Milford, PA, Carol Becker (Kevin), Hyde Park, NY, John Sheehan (Noreen), Red Hook, NY, Timothy Sheehan (Ellen) Ocean Isle Beach, NC and Ronald Sheehan (Martha) Mint Hill, NC, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family is so thankful to the Caregivers of Hudson Valley Hospice, especially Sarah and Theresa who were so helpful while he was at home and all the staff at Hospice House who provided so much comfort in his final days. We are also grateful to Dan's many friends who encircled him with kindness and support as his health declined.
Visiting Hours will be from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, November 4, at Sweets Funeral Home, 4365 Albany Post Rd. in the Village of Hyde Park, NY. Funeral Mass will be at 10 am on Tuesday, November 5 at Regina Coeli Church, Albany Post Rd. in Hyde Park, NY.
In lieu of flowers, Dan's family respectfully request memorial donations to the Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation, 80 Washington Street, Suite 204, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. (www.hvhospice.org)

We were so blessed to see Lost Dog Woody on Aug 11, 2024. The last time our Danny performed live. So many musicians, friends, family and fans were there. Danny was able to join the boys at practice a few more times. Love you, Danny. We'll all miss you.
