Loretta and family,
It is inspiring to have met Dan and to learn something of his life and achievements. As I have related to you before Loretta, our nation needs Dan's wise counsel and the story of his life now more than ever. I look forward to reading his new book and am hopeful that it and the life's work of this wonderful man will help our nation heal some of the racial and related strife it is experiencing. With profound respect for you and Dan and sadness on Dan's passing. Roy Jones

I had the pleasure of meeting Dan and Loretta when they visited Beardsley Library, in his hometown of Winsted, CT, to research his Smith family roots. Dan was a delightful person, with a passion for knowledge, and he will be fondly remembered. My sincerest sympathy to Loretta and family on their loss.
