Daniel Strominger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Egan-Ryan Funeral Service - Central Chapel on Jun. 16, 2022.
Daniel ("Dan") H. Strominger, born June 16, 1936, in Lima, Ohio to Andy and Ruth Strominger. He passed away June 14, 2022 at Kobacker House after a short illness. He graduated high school in 1954 from St. Gerard Catholic School, and Ohio Northern University in 1959 with a degree in Mathematics. He married his elementary classmate and the love of his life, Patricia ("Pat") Wolock, in 1956, and they moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1959 where they had four sons. Dan was the Computer Department Manager at Rockwell International & Boeing from 1959 until 1991, when he retired. Dan was an admirable and loving person with a sharp mind and great sense of humor, who enjoyed boating, golfing, playing poker, fishing, spending time with his family, attending ONU alumni dinners, and reading the newspaper. Dan was quite the fisherman in his younger years and would take regular trips to Lake Erie with his sons and relatives to catch walleye. He also went to Lake Cumberland in Tennessee once a year to rent a houseboat with his relatives and friends for a four-day fishing trip. One year there were so many people, they had to rent two houseboats! Dan was a regular golfer and enjoyed hitting the course with his regular group of players twice a week. The group would also take special trips down south for a few days and play two rounds of golf a day. He also liked playing Texas Hold'em poker tournaments once a month with about 25 friends. His poker nickname was "Dan the Man" and he even had a shirt with his nickname printed on it. He visited The Top Steak House restaurant in Bexley with his wife, Pat, almost every year to celebrate their anniversary. Every Christmas for over 40 years, the entire Strominger family would gather at their house on Christmas Eve for a tradition of Mass, dinner, and exchanging presents, which Dan always looked forward to. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Ruth, and brother, Leo. He is survived by and will be forever loved by his wife of 65 years, Pat; four sons, Timothy (Janis), Terry (Leigh), Mark (Russel) and Brad; seven grandchildren, Jill, Andy (Ashley), Nick (Amanda), Paul, Steven, Edmund, and David; two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Raleigh; siblings, Pat (Joe) Tribolet, Donna (sister-in-law), Beth (Jerry) Axe, Lawrence (Adriana), Sharon (Denny) Gutman; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be Friday, June 17 from 4-7pm at EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 403 E. BROAD ST, Columbus, OH 43215. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, June 18 at 10:30am at St. Catharine Catholic Church, 500 S. Gould Road Columbus, OH 43209. Interment will be at Saint Joseph Cemetery, 6440 S High St, Lockbourne, OH 43137. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kobacker House, c/o OhioHealth Foundation, 3430 OhioHealth Pkwy, Columbus, OH 43202.
