Daniel Thulin Obituary

DANIEL ARTHUR THULIN
October 27, 1942 ˜ August 30,
2025

Daniel Arthur Thulin was born on October 27, 1942, to Arthur and Agnes Thulin in Kansas City, Missouri. When Dan was still young, the family relocated to Vancouver, WA, where Arthur and Agnes raised Dan and his eight siblings on a farm in the Barberton area. Dan went on to serve his country in the US Army. After completing his military service, Dan met and married the love of his life, Lisa “Candi” Kelley, in November 1967. They welcomed their first son, Christopher, in October 1968, and their family was completed with the addition of their second son, Michael, in March 1971. They raised their young family in Vancouver, Washington while Dan worked at Alcoa for 20 years and then at Bemis for the next 20, before retiring in 2007.

Dan’s life was marked by his devoted work ethic and commitment to serving others. Dan and Candi were an integral part of the Fruit Valley neighborhood community where they lived and worked. In his retirement, Dan volunteered with Meals on Wheels and would jump at the chance to offer rides or lend a helping hand to neighbors in his community where he lived. Dan was always quick to flash his trademark grin and will always be remembered for his generosity and kindness. Dan loved fishing, reading his newspapers, and enjoying a good cup of coffee. He was a man of faith, having grown up in the Catholic church tradition. He would pray the rosary three times a day and could often be found listening (and sometimes singing along) to the local Catholic radio station.

Dan passed away on August 30, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Agnes, his brothers Donald and Ernest, and his beloved wife, Candi. He is survived by his sons Christopher (Sarah) and Michael (Amanda), and his three grandchildren, Josiah, Emma, and Abby, as well as his siblings Elaine, Theresa, Della, Andrew, Roger, and Eyvonne, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Dan will be greatly missed, and his memory and legacy will live on in the lives of those who were privileged to know and love him. Dan Thulin will be acknowledged Friday, September 19, during the 12:10 p.m. Mass at St James Proto-Cathedral at 218 W 12th St, Vancouver, WA. Following will be graveside service at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Cemetary at 10770 NE Maitland Rd, Vancouver, WA, with a reception following at Connection Church at 910 NE Minnehaha St., Suite 6, Vancouver, WA 98665.

Was also a co-worker and he was always a pleasure to work with. Remember him being tagged with the moniker "Danger Dan", the total opposite of the experience. Was not aware he was a neighbor. Can still picture that smile in my mind's eye. He went with grace.

Tho many years have come & gone and life takes us to different places, our memories from youth are foundational.
Dan did indeed live a good long life and his legacy will be strong in your hearts. I am forever grateful for the many years I shared with the Thulin family thru farm work, weddings, births, etc. There´s nothing more special than to see a family stay in touch as you all have. Something your mom insisted on.
Dan was certainly lucky in his senior years to be visited, cared for, & opportunities to reminisce about the twists and turns of life. His obituary tells his life´s story so eloquently. His smile speaks volumes.
My sincere and heartfelt condolences. Debbie
