Daniel Arthur Triplett, M.D.

Daniel Arthur Triplett, M.D., 89, of Liberty, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, March 28, leaving behind a life defined by service, dedication, and deep love for his family and community.

Dan was born on May 20, 1936, in Champaign, Illinois. At just three months old, he was adopted by Margaret (Hobbs) and Hugh Triplett. At the age of nine, his family moved to Liberty, Missouri—a place that would remain his lifelong home and the center of his story.

A proud graduate of Liberty High School in 1954, Dan was also a standout football player, earning scholarship offers from the University of Missouri and William Jewell College. He chose to attend William Jewell College, where he graduated in 1957. He continued his education at Tulane University School of Medicine, earning his medical degree in 1961. He completed his internship in Florence, South Carolina, and his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Dan served his country in the United States Air Force for two years at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota, achieving the rank of Captain and receiving an honorable discharge in 1967.

That same year, Dan returned home to Liberty to begin what would become an extraordinary medical career. As one of the founding physicians of Northland Obstetrics and Gynecology, he helped shape women’s healthcare in the Kansas City Northland. Over the years, he delivered 3,681 babies—each one a moment he cherished. He practiced at both North Kansas City Hospital and Liberty Hospital, institutions he was deeply proud to serve. He was also a founding member of Liberty Hospital and performed the very first surgery there when it opened. For decades, he was a steady and trusted presence in the lives of countless families before retiring in 2012.

Beyond his medical career, Dan was a co-developer of Seaport Business Park and Westwoods Patio Homes Maintenance-Free Living, one of the first developments of its kind in the Northland—another reflection of his vision and commitment to his community.

Dan’s life was marked by quiet accomplishments and meaningful recognition. Among his proudest honors were the Russell Stocksdale Distinguished Service Award at Liberty Hospital and the Lamar Hunt Legacy Seat Award in 2024. A faithful Boy Scout, he was a Warrior in good standing in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say (Midnight Half Moon). In 1951, he earned his Eagle Scout Award—an achievement that reflected the character and values he carried throughout his life.

In 1958, Dan married his high school sweetheart, Patsy Berndt, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in love and devotion. Together, they raised four children: Daniel “Danny” Triplett, Jr. (Amy), Becky Herring (Chris), Doug Triplett (Joni), and Jennifer Jenness (Paul).

His greatest joy was his growing family. He was a proud “Poppa” to his grandchildren—Abbey Lininger, Zack Triplett, Katelyn Whitfield, Matthew Herring, Scott Herring, Ashley Herring, Ryan Robertson, Jordan Brancato, Sydney Solanki, Jackson Triplett, Hayden Robertson, Cameron Triplett, Nick Jenness, Joe Jenness, and Tyler Jenness—and to 14 great-grandchildren. The name “Poppa” extended beyond family, as many of their friends came to know and love him by that same title.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, his stepbrother Richard Evans, and his stepsister Joellen Pence. He is survived by his brother, Jim Huxtable of Cincinnati, Ohio.

A lifelong member of Second Baptist Church in Liberty, Dan’s faith was a steady foundation throughout his life. Outside of work and family, he found great joy in cheering on his hometown teams. As a longtime season ticket holder for the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs, game days were among his favorite traditions—often shared with those he loved most. He also cherished time at his home on Table Rock Lake in Branson, Missouri, where he enjoyed boating or relaxing on the dock with family and friends. His beloved pool was always full of children and grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.

Dan will be remembered not only for the thousands of lives he helped bring into the world, but for the kindness, steadiness, and quiet strength with which he lived his own. His legacy lives on in his family, his patients, and the community he cared for so deeply.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 10, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church in Liberty, Missouri. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 11, at 11:00 a.m., also at Second Baptist Church in Liberty.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dan’s name to William Jewell College or Second Baptist Church of Liberty, Missouri. For those who may not be able to attend Dan's funeral it will be live streamed on the Second Baptist Church Face Book page and You Tube channel;
