Daniel "Nilo" Velazquez passed away on November 9, 2022, at the age of 73, in Brooklyn, NY.
Nilo was born August 29, 1949, at home in Naguabo, Puerto Rico. He was the ninth child of
fourteen to Lucresia Perez and Andres Velazquez.
Even though he loved Puerto Rico dearly, he decided to live with his older sister Rosa in
Brooklyn NY. It was in Titi Rosa's house he laid eyes on the love of his life, Mirta. When Nilo
saw Mirta in Titi Rosa's house, he knew she was the one for him. He pursued her for years and
never gave up. She fell for his charms and after dating for a year, they were married on
December 13, 1975 they then began their own family. They were inseparable until now.
In addition to his wife, Mirta, his two daughters Yanira (Jani) and Elizabeth (Lisi), Nilo is
survived by his six sisters, Rosa, Flora, Carmen, Migdalia, Matilde, Clotilde, and Iris, his five
brothers Juan Antonio, Carmelo, Andres, Frank, and Pablo, and his five grandchildren,
Stephanie, Azari, Malachi, Zacharie, and Samantha.
Nilo was a man with many hats. He had many occupations, baker, car painter, a butcher, and
many others in between. He was a son, brother, husband, loving father, uncle, father-in-law, and
a friend. He was a father figure to many nieces, nephews, and neighborhood kids. He loved his
family very much. He was immensely proud of his granddaughters and grandsons and loved
being around them. He loved playing dominoes and to his fault, was being a Mets fan. He was
always up for a game of dominoes, traveling, new adventures, and having a good time.
Nilo's story began in Puerto Rico and ended in NY. His remains will be laid in Puerto Rico as
his final destination. He is extremely loved by many and leaves us with the cherished memories
of all the good times we shared with him.
