My husband was in the military and stationed at Sugar Grove W Va. in 1976. When I had a medical emergency we called and Dr. Witmer was on duty that night. We rushed over the mountain and as soon as I got there I was rushed in for a c section. Dr Witmer saved my life and my daughters. She is now 40 years old. I am forever grateful to him. May he rest in peace. My sympathy to all his family.

There are some people who simply stand out for their leadership qualities, for their maturity even at an early age, and for their kindness and friendship. I was fortunate to be a fraternity brother of Dan's at Franklin and marshall College, and although we didn't stay in touch over the years, just knowing that Dan has passed away leaves a gaping hole in my soul. Dan meant a lot to the brothers at F&M and his memory gives me a lift. What a gift! What a friend!

MY memory of Danny goes back to the mid 40s. I lived on a farm near Greencastle ,where his grandfather George owned a grocery store.A group of farmers near the border of Greencastle formed a threshing "ring" to facilitate in the harvesting of their wheat crops.During threshing season, always in Aug.,the farmers in the ring would help each other in the harvest. This involved hauling the shocked wheat from the fields to the threshing rig.Danny's grandfather would appear at various times to drive the tractors pulling the wagons gathering the shocked wheat. His grandfather would place Danny between his legs, allowing Danny to steer the tractor. Dannys younger brother may have been a participant also, but grandpa George only brought one boy at a time.

Wonderful to hear that Danny had a very successful career as a caring physican. My thoughts and prayers to his family.

Dear Lee and Family,
We were saddened to hear of "Dr. Witmer"'s passing. Since his retirement we really hadn't kept up with you all so this was a surprise. We want you to know that we truly appreciated him ... John through Nielsen enjoyed working with him as they built their new offices (in the Medical Arts complex) and respected his leadership and character. Linda really appreciated his gentle and kind "bedside manner" as a doctor. He made the yearly visit not to be dreaded and was a true encourager with each pregnancy.
We are praying for your memories to bring you peace and comfort from our Heavenly Father.

Many prayers to the family on such a lovely man. I worked Labor and Delivery with him for 12 years and a couple of fellow nurses the other week were sharing late night Dr. Dan stories. Even in a tense or critical situation, Dr. Witmer never said a cross word and was always calm cool and collected. There was rarely a time a hair was out of place, even at 2am. It was an honor to serve alongside such a wonderful physician. Many nurses considered him Friend. Blessings and rest in peace. .......

Dr. Whitmer was the best doctor I could have had during the birth of my first daughter in 1993. He was caring and supportive through a quite difficult labor, he encompassed everything a person looks for in a doctor, especially at such a important time in a woman's life. My heartfelt sympathy and prayers to your family as you celebrate the man, husband, father and doctor.

I'm sorry to hear of his passing, He was a kind and caring man that showed his patients the utmost kindness and respect. He saved my life and the life of my daughter, who now is 38. I had been in labor for 48 hours with declining vital signs for myself and my unborn child. We both were literally dying. My husband spoke with a nurse and asked for her recommendation for a Dr to replace the one I had. She called Dr Witmer and he came in immediately, of coarse in the middle of the night. He did a csection and saved our lives. Needless to say, he became my Dr and I trusted him completely and stayed with him up to his retirement. Prayers go out to his family, for I know they will miss him deeply.

So sorry to hear of Dr. Witmer's passing. I had just talked to Ron Holsinger several weeks ago and asked how Dr. Witmer was doing. I will always remember going down to the garden with Dr. Gardner and picking the fresh vegetables to take over for the two of you to enjoy. That section of Fairway Hills is just not the same without the two of them. May God give you comfort at this difficult time.
