Danny Fok Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 12, 2026.
Danny Hin Pui Fok aged 89, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, at 10:47 p.m. in San Francisco, California.

Born on the eighth day of the eighth lunar month in 1936 in Guangzhou, China, Danny grew up in a family of means. However, his early life was shaped by hardship rather than comfort. During the outbreak of World War II, he was sent to Macau for safety-an experience that left a lasting impression on him. After returning to Guangzhou, the establishment of the communist regime led to the confiscation of his family's property, plunging them into poverty and forcing him to become self-reliant at a young age.

As a student, Danny worked tirelessly to support himself, often selling herbal tea in parks to earn money. During this period, he demonstrated an early moral clarity and independence of thought, believing firmly in living an honest life without seeking favor from supernatural powers. He once dreamed of becoming a doctor, but color blindness prevented him from pursuing a medical career. Rather than surrendering his aspirations, he adapted with resilience and determination.

In his early twenties, Danny moved to Hong Kong to reunite with his parents, working and studying simultaneously. He earned a bachelor's degree in banking and accounting from Hong Kong Chu Hai College. Despite his education and family connections, he struggled to secure stable employment. Faced with the responsibility of supporting a growing family, he chose to further his education at a teacher's college and became an elementary school physical education teacher-a decision that defined the next chapter of his life.

Danny devoted 35 years to teaching in Hong Kong, shaping generations of students through discipline, patience, and quiet encouragement. Known for his responsibility, emotional stability, and resilience, he approached his work with steady dedication and care.

After retirement, Danny moved to the United States, where his passion for lifelong learning flourished. He eagerly learned English and computer skills and became an active volunteer in the Chinese community, contributing his time and service for over 20 years. Even in later life, he remained curious, engaged, and committed to giving back.

Danny faced significant health challenges, including cancer and a minor stroke that led to early-stage dementia. Through it all, he showed remarkable perseverance. With the devoted care and love of his wife and children-especially his four daughters-his condition improved, and his later years were filled with warmth, dignity, and joy.

Danny was funny, caring, considerate, patient, and deeply responsible. He loved learning and believed in facing life with persistence and integrity. His calm temperament and steady presence made him a source of strength for those around him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Suet Ching Fok; his children, Cora Folk, Dora Fok, Nora Folk, Agnes Fok, and Sam Folk; and his cherished grandchildren, Kyle Tam, Ivan Lai, Justin Lai, Christy Cheung, Melody Chen, Kimmy Cheung, Nathan Tam, and Hannah Chen.

Danny Hin Pui Fok lived a full and meaningful life defined by perseverance, responsibility, and a lifelong love of learning. His story reminds us that no matter how difficult life may be, dignity, resilience, and compassion can shape a life of purpose. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Hin Pui Fok will be remembered with honor and affection by family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by their presence.
