GREEN VALLEY ~ Danny Leroy “Dan” Hackney, 63 of Green Valley, passed away at 7:18 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2016 in the emergency room at Pekin Hospital.
Born October 8, 1953 in Peoria to Warren and Esther (Newell) Hackney, he married Sharon Heinold on June 2, 1972 in Deer Creek. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother of Green Valley; one daughter, Angela Cremer of Green Valley; four brothers, Rick (Karen) Hackney of San Jose, David (Susan) Hackney of Deer Creek, James (Sally) Hackney of Deer Creek, Dale Hackney of South Pekin; two sisters, Sharon (Jerry) Cox of Pekin; Cheryl (Leonard) Dillman of Morton and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Dan had served in the United States Air Force from 1971 until 1975 and then with the Illinois Air National Guard for several years.
He had worked for the Grand Victorian of Pekin, retiring in October of 2015. Prior to that, he had owned his own construction business for several years.
Dan enjoyed fishing, hunting, being outdoors, cooking and bowling. He also loved spending time with his daughter Angela and his grand puppies, Abbey and Cami and watching football, especially the New England Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2016 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Mike McLeod will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Green Valley Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force and the Delavan American Legion Post #382.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with expenses.
