Dannye Sue Ahlstedt, 76, of Newbern, Tennessee, died on Friday, March 10, 2023, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.
Born Tuesday, July 9, 1946, in Little Rock, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Dan T. Benner and the late Helen L. Bearden Benner.
Cremation services for Ms. Ahlstedt are under the direction of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.
She is survived by three daughters, Elisabeth D. Ahlstedt, Amanda M. England of Searcy, Arkansas and Heather Ahlstedt Jones of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one sister, Cinda Kaye McConnell of St. Louis, Missouri; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond E. Ludwig.
Dannye Sue was a "One in a Million". From the time she was very young she displayed an extraordinary yearning for learning. She was one of those people that knew a little bit about everything. In many cases she knew a lot about the topic at hand and expressed her knowledge well. She learned at a very young age how to sew.....no not just sew....but design. She didn't use patterns, she used her vision. Her creations were always ahead of her time! She made clothing, curtains, reupholstered furniture....all better than most anyone.
She was an excellent cook and baker. One of her funniest stories was sinking the ducks with her biscuits. After that first disaster of a batch all of her breads were perfect.
She was a fabulous horse handler. She always picked the horses no one else would even consider. Next thing you knew, she would be a barrel racing champion on a good horse or a bad one.
She had a knack for making friends. All over the world. She could sit and storytell for hours.
Animals were her passion from the time she was a little girl. She has owned dogs, cats, ferrets, snakes, fish and, of course, horses.
Her compassion for friends and family found her raising many people throughout the years. Her most recent, treasured charge was Jade. She loved you more than you will ever know. She will be watching over your future success stories.
She loved her grandchildren, but of late one very special great grandchild made her laugh regularly. Maddox make her proud.
She will be forever remembered as the woman that lived her life her way. Susie, you will be missed terribly.
The family asks that memorial contributions be directed to Paws To Care, 945 Harris Road, Dyersburg, Tennessee 38024.
