Obituary published on Legacy.com by Corleto-Latina Funeral Home and Crematory on Aug. 27, 2025.
Surrounded by those who loved him, Dante Lawrence Zoli Jr., born December 26, 1943, of Townsend, Delaware, passed away peacefully at his sister's home on the morning of August 23rd, at the age of 81. He leaves behind a legacy filled with unforgettable road trips (and unforgettable stories to match!), as well as a quiet generosity that touched more lives than most ever knew.
Born to Dante Sr. and Rose (DeProspero), both of whom predeceased him, Donny grew up in Kennett Square, PA – "Mushroom Country." From 1961 – 1965, Donny served in the Marines as a Combat Engineer. He loved tinkering in his garage and enjoying his classic car collection. In all his years, Don had a strong sense of direction - quite literally. He never needed a map. He memorized the highways of the United States from coast to coast and could tell you the best route from Burbank to Buffalo without blinking. His passion for driving wasn't just a skill; it was his way of life. He spent years behind the wheel with a warm cup of coffee driving for Chemical Leman, Quality Carriers, FedEx, and in his final years, delivering products for Filter's Unlimited, always believing "it's not work if you love it" and enjoying the camaraderie of the Filter's Unlimited family, and the customers he served.
While on the road, Don enjoyed listening to a variety of music. From polka (especially Molly B) to oldies and classical symphonies, there was always a tune in his heart and often in his car. A faithful man, he never traveled without his St. Christopher necklace, and his support for the Native American community was shown through his longstanding support of the St. Labre Indian School. He is also remembered fondly for the way he recalled the small, personal details of those he loved - a rare and treasured gift.
Don's greatest joy, especially over this past year, was spending time with family. Whether it was a lively game of 500 Rummy (where he especially enjoyed beating his sister), a family gathering filled with Italian food, or cheering on the kids at t-ball while enjoying a hot dog, he made every moment count. He held a deep, abiding love for his niece Kathy and her children Scott and Alexandria, and for his nephew John, his wife Patti, and their children, Reagan and Jacob.
Dante is survived by his devoted sister, Florence (Poore), and brother-in-law, John, who stood by him through every mile – especially through his recent illness.
Don's journey may have reached its final stop, but the roads he traveled, the stories he told, and the love he gave will live on in the hearts of those lucky enough to have known him.
A visitation will be held from 10:30 AM to 12 PM on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, followed by mass at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 901 N Dupont St,
Wilmington, DE. Following mass, at 2pm, Dante will be recognized with military honors at the Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd, Bear, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Don's name to the St. Labre Indian School.
