It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Daphne Marie Baker, who left this world on November 4, 2025, at the age of 61. Born on December 16, 1963, in Montgomery, Alabama, Daphne lived a life filled with unconditional love for her family and friends, earning the cherished title of “Big Ma” from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. This name reflected not only her profound affection but also the care and nurturing spirit she imparted to those she loved.
Daphne’s vibrant personality made her a delight to be around. She had an infectious joy for life, enjoying activities such as yard sales, which were always made better by the company of her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memories with her husband, Shelby, watching westerns were particularly dear to her heart, embodying the warmth and togetherness that defined their 36 years of marriage.
She is survived by her loving husband, Shelby Baker; children, Amanda Meeks (Jerry), Christy Rigsby (Adam), and Michael Baker Sr. (Cindy); grandchildren, Chloe Baker (Dalton), Jakob Baker, Tyler Jackson (Athena), Dylan Jackson, Ashleigh Rigsby, and Michael Baker Jr.; great-grandchildren, Delilah Knight, Mason, Dixon, Kenneth Drew, Raelynn Jackson, and DJ Jackson; special great-niece, Hailee Marie Guilford; and siblings Kim Poore (Richard), Jerrie Lynn Smith (Andrew), and Jerry “Bubba” Jarvis Jr. (Becky).
Daphne is preceded in death by her father, Jerry W. Jarvis Sr.; mother, Marie E. Purdy; sister, Dianne Crosby; grandparents, Carlton and Frances Jarvis, Jessie and Savannah Edwards; and her aunt, Jean Jarvis.
In times of sadness, we find solace in the love and memories we carry forward. As we remember Daphne, let us hold her spirit close, for as we echo her sentiment, “Our hearts may be heavy, but we will hold our heads high, for it’s only see you later, it’s truly not goodbye.” A Celebration of Life for Daphne Marie Baker will be held at a later date, honoring her legacy and the joy she brought into our lives.
