Darby J. Usey, age 71, of Katy, Texas, passed away on June 5, 2025, following a courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 51 years, Karen Usey, along with his cherished children, Darby J. Usey, Jr. and his wife Tara, and Kelli Hotz and her husband Darryl. He took great joy in being a grandfather to Darby J. Usey III “Tripp,” Torrie Usey, Lexie Usey, Dylan Hotz, and Kaden Hotz. Darby is also survived by his siblings, Lisa Usey Majorie and Rachel Simmons, along with his extended family, including his sister-in-law Melinda Usey, his nephews Chad Usey, Cory Boudreaux, Michael Simmons, Jr., Morgan Simmons, and his niece Meagan Simmons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bentley Usey, Sr. and Carolyn “Connie” Usey, and his brother Bentley Usey, Jr.

Born on June 16, 1953, Darby grew up in Marrero, Louisiana, as the second of four siblings. He attended Marrero Junior High and graduated in 1971 from West Jefferson High School, where he distinguished himself as a talented baseball player and all-state running back on the 1970 Buccaneers’ state championship football team. The friendships he forged with coaches and teammates during this time remained important to him throughout his life. His athletic achievements earned him a scholarship to Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana.

Darby began his career with several entry-level positions before securing a long tenure with IMCO Services, which later became M-I Swaco. After the events of Hurricane Katrina, in 2007 he relocated to Houston, Texas, where he continued to thrive in his professional life until his retirement in 2015 after a successful 41-year career.

An avid fisherman and outdoor enthusiast, Darby treasured weekends spent on the water or playing golf with friends. He was a dedicated sports parent, supporting his children in their various activities, and infused his home with love and laughter.
