Darell E. Longan, age 76, long time resident of the Grove/Jay area passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 27, 2024, at his home.
Darell was born on August 7, 1948, in Guthrie, Oklahoma to Robert and Betty (Barker) Longan. During his youth, his family moved to Grove and Darell graduated from Grove High School, Class of '66. After graduation Darell attended Northeastern A & M College and went on to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps.
In 1971, Darell married Judy Fuller and they had 2 sons. She preceded his in death in 2004.
Adventurous and an outdoorsman, in 1984, Darell packed up his family and headed north to the Canadian Yukon. There the family lived off the grid and mined for gold.
Upon returning to Grove, Darell went to work at the family business, Longan Construction, formed by his father in 1957. Eventually owning and operating it. He retired in 2006.
Darell enjoyed riding motorcycles and spending time at the V.F.W.
He will be remembered for his ornery personality, giving people a hard time and having a stubborn streak.
Darell is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Judy Longan.
Left to cherish his memory, companion of 18 years, Kathy Jones, sons, Clint Longan (Tootie) and Brian Longan (Tessa); grandsons, Levi Longan (Brennan) and Bryce Longan, one great grand son, Torin Longan and sister, Diana Gault (Jerry).
Visitation will be from 5-7pm Thursday, October 3, at Nichols Stephens Funeral & Cremation Services. Graveside services will be at 10am Friday, October 4, 2024, at Butler Cemetery.
Donations in Darell's memory may be made to Butler Cemetery in c/o the funeral home.
