Daren Ellis Cheney passed away at 54 on July 21, 2025. H was born in Ogden, Utah on February 3, 1971 to Ellis K and Marilyn Saunders Cheney.
He grew to be strong and helpful. He was always helping his brother, Glen, after Glen's accident. He excelled in all sports. He started wrestling when he was 4 years old and continued for several years earning many awards. In football he always played offense and defense. He was awarded a big trophy for the region earning offensive and defensive player of the year in the same year. He played football at SUU and BYU.
Daren earned his Eagle Scout award at 14 years old. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Fortaleza, Brazil. He taught school for 25 years and was beloved by his students.
He had a deep love for the outdoors, especially camping with his daughters. Riding his motorcycle brought him joy and freedom, and his adventurous spirit was felt by everyone around him. His family cherishes countless memories of playing games together and listening to him sing. Wise, magnetic, and full of life, he left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He is survived by his two daughters, Morgan Cruz (Donovan) and Madison Cheney. He is also survived by his mother Marilyn Cheney and his siblings, Paula Hollaway (Kevin), Joy Palmer (Curtis), Glen Cheney, Donna Greene (Andrew), Mark Cheney (Lindsay), Lisa Cheney (Augie), and Karen Walsh. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jill Peterson, his father, Ellis K Cheney, and both sets of grandparents.
