I knew Darla through Gerald and first met them through my sister-in-law, Francis Horn, who had married into our family, as well as through Danny Smith, who was related to Gerald as a cousin. We all shared roots in Binger. Later, while in high school, I worked alongside Lilburn hauling hay. He was one of the hardest-working men and finest gentlemen I ever had the privilege of knowing. I would also go on to work with Darla´s son in law enforcement.
Darla was always a true lady - devoted to her family and grounded in quiet strength. I held the utmost respect for her, and through Lilburn, I always understood where that strong and steady foundation came from. Her grace and character left a lasting impression on me.
