Darlene was born on June 20, 1943 in Plainview, Nebraska to Lester Baller and Louise T. “Lucy” (Timmerman) Rader. Lucy and Les farmed northeast of Creighton until they moved north of Brunswick, Nebraska, where they continued farming. In 1952, they purchased the Brunswick Locker. Due to failing health, Lucy and Les sold the locker plant. Les died in September of 1967, after 25 years of marriage. In March of 1977, Lucy married Richard Rader in Las Vegas, Nevada. Lucy and Richard made their home four miles west of Brunswick, where they farmed.

Darlene attended Brunswick High School in Brunswick, Nebraska, graduating in 1961. After high school, Darlene met the love of her life, Eugene “Gene” Bierschenk, and they were married in 1969 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Randolph, Nebraska. This marriage created three amazing sons: Lynn Eugene, Brian Dean, and Mark Edward.

Throughout her life, Darlene was known to be a hard-working woman. She probably babysat for you, or she might have even been your waitress at Mary’s Café in Plainview. She loved to do many things, especially playing cards such as pitch, canasta, or euchre. She also enjoyed cooking, especially her brownies from scratch. Everyone also enjoyed her potato salad and tomato juice. She enjoyed seeing friends she had known for many years and spending time with family. Darlene also enjoyed doing word puzzles, playing games, and watching “her programs” on television, including the Game Show channel. Her favorite colors were blue and yellow.

Unfortunately, Darlene lost her husband: Eugene “Gene” on Monday May 02, 2016.
