Darlene Mae Daugherty, born on May 31, 1944, in Amherst, Ohio, to Alex and Ann (nee Semyczyk) Olexen, passed away on January 29, 2025, at Kingston of Vermilion at the age of 80.
A 1963 graduate of Lorain Admiral King High School, Darlene worked as a receptionist for a Veterinary Animal Clinic and later as a State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) at Avon Oaks Nursing Home. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and an exceptional homemaker who found joy in cooking and baking. Her baking talents were unmatched, whether she was making bread, pies, or her amazing cookies, which brought joy to family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Thomas Daugherty; her children, James Alex Schomer, William Michael Schomer, and Shelley Ann Likes; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her sister, Judy Vaniel. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Ann Olexen; her brother, Raymond Olexen; and her daughter-in-law, Stacie Simerson.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 6, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral center, followed by interment at Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
