Darlene Gathman, 86, passed away on December 15, 2025, in Gulf Breeze Florida after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Darlene is survived by her loving husband Terry. Daughter Debbie Graeber, son Mark (Margaret) Gathman, Grandchildren, David (Danielle) Graeber, Michael Graeber, Steven Graeber, Douglas (Elizabeth) Gathman and Kathryn Gathman. Great grandchildren Rylee Graeber, Jacob Gathman and Kairi Peterson. Brothers Jim (Gladys) Kopsell, Bill (Nancy) Kopsell, Don Kopsell, sisters Barbara (Terry) Murray, Linda (Robert) Levand and sister in law Donna Kopsell. Many nieces and nephews.
Darlene was born on October 19, 1939 in McHenry County, Illinois to George and Lillian Kopsell, one of 13 children. She met her future husband Terry at 15 years of age and subsequently married him in Harlingen Texas on November 4, 1959. They welcomed two children, Debbie and Mark during the 24 years she spent as a devoted Air Force wife. Darlene followed her husband to many assignments across the country and was able to enjoy traveling to several destinations around the world. She was a talented, popular and active member of many wives groups as well as an avid golfer, winning and placing in several amateur tournaments.
In 2002 Darlene and Terry moved to Navarre Florida. She loved spending her retirement years enjoying the warm and sunny climate and the many many friends she made in the area.
Darlene will be deeply missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings and all who had the privilege of calling her friend.
