Darlene Nuttall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home of Hancock on Dec. 13, 2025.
Darlene T. Nuttall, of Lower Pewabic Location, passed away at the age of 84 with her family by her side on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Canal View in Hancock.

Born on August 23, 1941, in Houghton, Darlene was the daughter of the late Howard and Myrle (Bruneau) Stocker. She attended Quincy School and graduated from Hancock High School in 1959. During her high school years, Darlene worked as a waitress at the Coral Shop, a role she cherished and remembered fondly.

Darlene briefly attended Michigan Technological University, before marrying Ronald Nuttall, the love of her life, on March 17, 1960. The couple wed at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church on Quincy Hill. Later, Darlene became a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock.

She dedicated many years of service to Suomi College, where she was employed as Swim Director. Darlene taught swimming and lifesaving classes to countless local youth, earning admiration and respect from all who participated. She also worked as an Avon representative, forming many friendships through her work with the company.

Darlene loved to spend time in her kitchen, enjoying tea and conversations with family and friends. She enjoyed country music, dancing, camping trips, fishing on the family boat, and traveling alongside Ron on his motorcycle. An avid gardener, she preserved vegetables and crafted a variety of jams and jellies. Her ventures into wine making were marked by success, particularly her memorable choke cherry wine, which became a favorite among those living on the Hill.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband Ronald and her sister Alice Sydor. She is survived by her six children: Ronald (Charlene) of Charlevoix; Randy (Angela) of Lake Winnebago, MO; Janmarie (Bill) Markese of Williams Bay, WI; Ricky (Stacey) of Sparta; Rodney (Erin) of Hancock; and Jodi (Cory) Nuttall-Lightfoot of Hancock. She was a beloved grandmother to thirteen grandchildren: Logan Nuttall, Rachael Boyle, Sarah Davis, Christopher Nuttall, Erica Gertler, Antony and Nicolas Markese, Jenna and Katelyn Nuttall, Makenna and Jayden Nuttall, Kaylamarie Ollanketo, and Colter Lightfoot. Affectionately called Gigi by her fifteen great-grandchildren, Darlene's family was her pride and joy. She is also survived by two sisters, Bonnie Morin and Carol Pintar.

Darlene will always be remembered as a kind and loving woman, gracious to everyone she met. A celebration of Darlene's life will be held in the spring at O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home, followed by a burial service at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton. To honor Darlene's love of animals, memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to Copper Country Humane Society in the name of Darlene Nuttall.
