Darlene Weick, age 88, of Washington, IL, passed away March 13, 2025, at her home.
She was born to Walter and Hazel Wilhelm on September 30, 1936, in her Verdon, Nebraska farm home where she spent her childhood. She graduated from Dawson High School in 1954, and then moved to Lincoln Nebraska to study and become a teletype operator.
She married Lewis Weick in 1955, and they began farming in southern Kansas. Their journey into farming began with five years of terrible crop prices, but they persevered together and continued farming until Lew finished his return to college. They moved to Illinois where Darlene began a new venture of homemaker and mother. Once her children were older, she enjoyed collecting antiques and restorable furniture during her weekly garage sale hunts from which she developed several relationships with the area consignment shops. Later she worked as a librarian at the Washington Public Library until retirement. She and Lew enjoyed traveling, but she was always ready to get back to her own bed. She tolerated Lew's overabundance of garden crops by reluctantly helping him can green beans and tomatoes every season.
Darlene is survived by her three children: Dan (Susan) Weick, Amy (Carl) Gibbs, and Chris Weick; grandchildren, Brian (Kerilyn) Weick, and Shannon Weick; and her great grandchildren, Ruth and Dave.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and her husband.
Her remains will be inurned at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Il at a later date.
Darlene was a member of Faith Lutheran Church for many years. Funeral services will be Friday, March 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church in Washington, Il.
