Darlene Ica Wright, 97, of Coggon, Iowa, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025, at her daughter's home in rural Vinton. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on her birthday, Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Anchor Bible Church in Center Point, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 10:00 am until the service. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Blodgett Cemetery, rural Central City.
Darlene was born on March 29, 1927, in rural Troy Mills, the daughter of John and Lois (Sauer) Peyton. Darlene graduated from Troy Mills High School in 1944. In 1953, Darlene was united in marriage to Allen Wright. She worked at Fanny Farmer, The Gazette, Coggon Creamery, and farmed with her husband for many years in the Buck Creek area. Darlene was a member of Troy Mills Christian Church and Red Hat Society. She was a terrific cook, homemaker, and loved to fish. She enjoyed 15 years of Minnesota fishing trips with her sons Roy and Richard. Darlene will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Darlene is survived and lovingly remembered by her children: Mary Jo (Keith) Allenstein of Atlantic, Richard (Rita) Peyton of Catlett, Virginia and Cinda (Tim) McLaud of Vinton, and daughter-in-law, Karen Wright of Cedar Rapids, seven grandchildren; Allen Peterson, Krista Stepanek, Rhonda (Rod) Peyton, Keith (April) Allenstein Jr., Randi (Joe) Crisman, Darbi (Jay) Martin and Brock (Erin) Munson; thirteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Freida Daubenberger of Cape Coral, Florida, brother, D Peyton of Lamesa, Texas, several nieces, nephews, and many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Allen; son, Roy Wright; brother, Jack Peyton; sister and best friend, Bernice Jordan; and her dear granddaughter, Kendra (Peterson) Woertendyke. A special thank you to Louis Zaspal for all the memories, companionship and compassion he shared with Darlene over the past many years. Thank you to Pastor Andrew Happ and Anchor Bible Church and also to The Hospice of Mercy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Darlene’s memory may be directed to Camp Courageous or a charity of the donor’s choice.
