D.W. "Darold" Gordon, 89 of Creston, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2008 at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Creston Rev. Dr. Diana Leaf will officiate. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, south of Creston. Military Graveside Rites by the Theodore J. Martens, Post #1797, Creston VFW. Open visitation will be 2 to 7 pm Sunday with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 pm Sunday at the Powers Funeral Home Jct. Hwys #34 & #25 Creston. Memorials are to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston or the American Heart Association. Online condolences may be made under the obituary category at www.powersfh.com. Darold Wayne Gordon was born September 18, 1918 in Lenox, Iowa to Bertha L.(Preston) and Earl Gordon. He graduated from Lenox High School in 1936 and studied at Drake University. In 1941 he entered the U.S. Army, where he served until 1945, receiving a Bronze Star Medal and other decorations and citations. On January 10, 1947 he was united in marriage to Vesta N. Konecne in Kansas City, Kan. Darold owned and operated the Dodge Dealership in Creston, known as the Creston Super Service. Darold retired in 1981. He was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston, Creston VFW Post #1797, Elks Lodge #605, Eagles Lodge #1398 and the Lakeshore Golf and Country Club in Afton. Darold is survived by his wife: Vesta Gordon of Creston; one daughter: Sue (husband Jerry) Adams of Creston; one son: Dale (wife Barbara) Gordon of Urbandale, Iowa; one brother Russell Gordon of Sharpsburg, Iowa; one sister: Verlee Eckels of Lenox, Iowa; four grandchildren: Tara (husband Bill) Ely of Blue Springs, MO; Tony (wife Katherine) Gordon of Mornington, Victoria, Australia; Melanie (husband Andy) Johnson of Clarinda, Iowa; Angie (husband Dave) Lindley of Evansdale, Iowa and four great-grandchildren: Adam Johnson; William Ely; Benjamin Lindley and Aidan Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father in-law; three brother in-laws: Lew Eckels; Max Konecne; Dean Konecne; one sister in-law: Conie Gordon; one niece: Helen Louise Eckels and one great-granddaughter: Mackenzie Ely.
