Darrel LeRoy Bliss was born January 21, 1953, in Canby, MN to Harold and Glendor (Pearson) Bliss. Darrel grew up on the family farm, the second of five children. He attended Canby Public Schools, graduating in 1970. He joined the United States National Guard in the fall of 1970 and was honorably discharged December 1, 1985.
Darrel had a true love of the land and farming, always watching the crops and the markets. He attended Canby Vo-Ag for Farm Business and went on to farm and raise hogs. He later moved on to other ag-related positions, but was especially proud of his position as Agronomy Manager for Morris Coop from which he retired in 2017. This position brought him pride in helping his customers and watching them succeed along with the camaraderie with his co-workers.
Darrel was very proud of his children, Jenni, Matt and Mike and the grandchildren that followed later. He married Eileen Doherty on November 27, 1993. They resided by Morris for many years and together they enjoyed traveling, watching their grandchildren’s activities and attending other family events. In retirement, they enjoyed winters in Florida and Arizona.
He was a devoted member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Hancock, where he served in various roles, including council president and was favored by his church family for his enthusiastic singing leadership.
Darrel died on Thursday, April 3, 2025. He was 72 years old.
